All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was released on Saturday, a day after she was detained by the Delhi Police during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Bora was detained near Mandi House on Friday while heading to join the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
Her detention triggered concerns over her whereabouts, with AISA alleging that she had been moved between police facilities. The organisation later said she had been traced to the RK Puram police station and raised concerns about her access to legal assistance and medication.
According to reports, Bora was released after the completion of detention formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.
Following her release, Bora called for the release of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other protesters who had been detained during the crackdown.
The protest was part of a wider mobilisation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s handling of electoral rolls. The demonstrators have accused the poll body of facilitating irregularities, allegations the Election Commission has rejected.
Dipke remained in custody, according to reports published on Saturday, with concerns also being raised over his whereabouts and access to legal assistance.
