Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Kapur confirmed that face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops had taken place at multiple locations in Arunachal Pradesh and that the situation was continuing.
Kharge described the developments as “deeply alarming” and questioned the government’s handling of border security and its diplomatic engagement with China. In a post on X, he asked whether India’s patrolling access in the Taksing area of Arunachal Pradesh had been compromised and why the government was not informing the country about the situation.
The Congress chief also raised concerns over India’s trade deficit with China, citing a figure of $112.16 billion, and questioned the government’s approach towards Chinese imports and investments. He further asked what had been achieved through repeated engagements between Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Kapur, speaking at an annual felicitation ceremony for ITBP personnel in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Thursday, said face-offs had occurred at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh in recent days and that the situation remained ongoing.
He also praised the ITBP’s newly raised Shaurya Commando teams for their role in handling the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
