Amit Shah challenges Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav to debate ‘vote chori’ allegations in Parliament Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the BJP was ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Opposition's allegations of “vote chori”, but claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would not agree to such a discussion. Addressing the Uttar Pradesh BJP working committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah challenged Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to raise their allegations against the Election Commission in Parliament. “I am ready to call a special session of Parliament to discuss vote chori. But Rahul baba will never agree. He will never discuss the issue in Parliament but will create a nuisance on the street,” Shah said. He described the Opposition's allegations against the Election Commission as baseless and accused its leaders of preferring street protests over parliamentary discussions. Shah's remarks come amid the INDIA bloc's intensified campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have accused the Election Commission of carrying out a targeted exercise to remove voters from electoral rolls to benefit the ruling BJP, a charge the poll body has rejected. The Opposition is scheduled to hold a symbolic “public impeachment” of Gyanesh Kumar at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence on Saturday, October 31. The programme was postponed from Friday due to unseasonal rain. The INDIA bloc has also called for a protest rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1, against what it describes as the “demolition of democracy”. Shah also targeted Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav over their electoral performances, accusing them of blaming the Election Commission after losing elections. “After losing the match, they are blaming the umpire and alleging vote theft,” he said.
