Face-offs with Chinese troops continue at multiple locations along Arunachal LAC: ITBP chief

Face-offs between Indian and Chinese troops continue at multiple locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh despite high-level talks between the two countries, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapur has said.

“In the past few days, a situation arose where face-offs happened at several locations in Arunachal and it still continues,” Kapur said, confirming continuing tensions along the frontier.

The developments come amid efforts by India and China to address border disputes through military and diplomatic channels. The two sides held Corps Commander-level talks on September 6 at the Wacha-Damai border meeting point in Arunachal Pradesh to discuss the issues along the LAC.

The talks followed meetings between local commanders in the preceding weeks, as both sides sought to resolve the tensions in the eastern sector.

The ITBP chief also highlighted the force’s efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities along the China border. These include raising specialised ‘Shaurya’ commandos trained for high-altitude combat, expanding the use of drones and counter-drone systems, and developing underground shelters at forward locations.

Kapur said the force was investing in modernisation as traditional methods of warfare were becoming insufficient to meet emerging security challenges. The ITBP has also developed a ‘Strike’ training course to prepare personnel for combat situations similar to the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. The entire force is expected to undergo the training by the end of 2027.

The latest confirmation of face-offs comes amid persistent differences between India and China over the alignment of the LAC, which remains undemarcated in several sectors. Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic and military engagement, tensions in parts of Arunachal Pradesh remain unresolved.
