The Delhi Traffic Police on Friday issued a traffic advisory for September 5 in view of a motorcade rehearsal being conducted ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit in the national capital.
The rehearsal will take place between 10 am and 4 pm, during which traffic movement is likely to be regulated and diverted along several key roads in central, south and southwest Delhi.
The affected routes include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Motilal Nehru Marg, Satya Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road and Shanti Path.
Traffic regulations may also be imposed on Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
Traffic diversions are expected at several points, including Patel Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, RML Hospital roundabout, Vande Mataram Marg, Moti Bagh Flyover, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg roundabout, Madarsa T-Point, Lodhi Road and Neela Gumbad.
The traffic police have also advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to avoid delays during the rehearsal.
Meanwhile, traffic movement in central, south and southwest Delhi is likely to be affected for four days from September 10 in view of the BRICS summit.
According to officials cited by PTI, restrictions are expected to remain in place from the arrival of foreign delegates on September 10 until their departure around September 14. Commuters are likely to face diversions, congestion and temporary road closures along several key routes during the period.
An elaborate traffic management plan has been put in place for the movement of heads of state, foreign delegations and other dignitaries attending the summit.
The plan includes 22 diversion points across the national capital. Vehicles are expected to be diverted from several locations, including Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg/Outer Circle in Connaught Place and Janpath.
The traffic police have urged commuters to follow advisories issued during the summit period and allow additional travel time.
