Thousands join Rahul Gandhi-led INDIA bloc march in Delhi against CEC

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday led a march of thousands of INDIA bloc supporters towards the Supreme Court in Delhi to protest against alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protesters raised slogans against the Election Commission and carried the national flag and copies of the Constitution as they marched from the Connaught Place area towards the Supreme Court.

The march witnessed heightened security, with Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel deployed along the route. Protesters reportedly breached a police barricade near the Le Meridien Hotel as they moved towards Barakhamba Road.

The INDIA bloc has accused the Election Commission of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise could deprive eligible voters of their right to vote. The Opposition has described the alleged irregularities as “vote chori”.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said INDIA bloc leaders would approach the Supreme Court with a petition over the allegations against Kumar.

Addressing a press conference at Indira Bhawan, Gandhi also claimed that 200 officers from the Narendra Modi-led government were in touch with the Opposition and sharing information with it.

The march came amid heightened security arrangements across central Delhi following two days of detentions linked to protests called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against the Chief Election Commissioner.
