Rahul Gandhi backs CJP leaders, says waving tricolour at Jantar Mantar is ‘not a crime’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday backed the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), saying waving the national flag during a peaceful protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar was not a crime, a day after the outfit’s co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were sent to five days’ judicial custody.

“Waving the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar in a peaceful protest is not a crime. Jailing youth for it is an act of cowardice,” Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said in a post on X.

He said protests by students, young people, journalists and INDIA bloc parties were united by a common demand for constitutional rights.

“Students. Youth. Journalists. The INDIA bloc. Different banners, one cause. All protests are one: citizens demanding their constitutional rights. Jantar Mantar belongs to the people of India. We will reclaim it,” he wrote.
