Over 7000 detained during anti-CEC protests in Delhi

Delhi Police detained more than 7,000 people on Saturday amid protests called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, according to The Times of India.

The detentions took place amid heightened security across the national capital, with Delhi Police and central armed police forces deployed at key locations ahead of the planned demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and colleagues Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained after arriving at Delhi airport ahead of the protest. Several other people, including journalists and lawyers, were also detained at different locations in the capital.

The CJP had called for the demonstration to demand accountability over the SIR exercise and alleged deletions from electoral rolls.
