Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 6.2°C on Friday, the lowest temperature recorded in the popular Kashmir resort since May 15 this year, according to Kashmir Weather.
The sharp drop in night-time temperatures could indicate that the summer heat is gradually beginning to retreat across Jammu and Kashmir, Faizan Arif, an independent weather forecaster said.
Adding that the dip, however, does not mean that the Union Territory will not experience above-normal temperatures in the coming days. “Daytime temperatures could still remain elevated in parts of the region.”
He said the broader trend is expected to gradually shift towards less hot and humid daytime conditions, signalling a slow transition from summer towards autumn.
The fall in night-time temperatures is particularly noticeable in higher-altitude areas such as Gulmarg, where temperatures typically begin to decline earlier as the region moves towards the autumn season.
