Mobile internet services will remain suspended in parts of central Delhi for 24 hours from 10 pm on Friday ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, according to a police order.
The restriction will be in force until 10 pm on October 10 in a four-kilometre radius around the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing, the order issued by Manishi Chandra, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police’s Special Cell, said.
The move comes amid heightened security arrangements ahead of the CJP demonstration, which is expected to draw protesters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The protest is part of a wider mobilisation against the Election Commission’s handling of the revision exercise. The proposed demonstration has prompted authorities to step up security arrangements in the national capital.
The reported restriction is limited to mobile internet services in the specified area. The order does not establish a citywide internet shutdown across Delhi.
