Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has claimed that the names of 1.27 crore Hindus are missing from the state's electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

Speaking at the BJP's state working committee meeting in Lucknow, Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh should have more than 16 crore voters based on population estimates, while the current electoral rolls contain around 13 crore names.

He cited several categories of people allegedly missing from the assembly electoral rolls, including 66 lakh people whose names appear on panchayat voter lists but not assembly rolls, 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes and around 4.5 lakh people aged 18 and 19.

Adityanath said the issue could affect the BJP's prospects in 28 urban seats ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He urged party workers, legislators and MPs to launch a campaign to identify eligible voters and help them register through Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

He also expressed concern that only around four lakh new voters had been added during the previous revision exercise, calling the figure a sign of negligence. He asked party leaders to regularly monitor the registration drive.

The claims were made at a time when political parties are preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections, with voter-list revision emerging as a key political issue
