INDIA bloc to approach SC against CEC today: Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday said INDIA bloc leaders would approach the Supreme Court at 3 pm to file a petition against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged “vote chori” (vote theft).
Addressing a press conference at Indira Bhawan, Gandhi invited people to join the planned INDIA bloc march from Connaught Place to the Supreme Court, saying even supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were welcome to participate.
Gandhi also claimed that 200 officers from the Narendra Modi-led government were in touch with the Opposition and sharing information with it.
“I want to tell PM Modi, 200 officers from within your government are in touch with us; they are passing on information to us,” he said.
The INDIA bloc has called the march to protest against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demand accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The planned march comes amid heightened security in the national capital and detentions over protests called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Abhijeet Dipke, against Kumar. Police have barricaded roads leading to Jantar Mantar and deployed personnel at key intersections to prevent protesters from gathering at the designated site.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory late on Sunday, warning of disruptions in New Delhi and central Delhi. Traffic restrictions and diversions were scheduled to come into effect from 6 am on Monday, depending on the situation on the ground.
