'Govt broke its word': CJP renews agitation with Sept 5 protest march

New Delhi: Barely a month after suspending its demonstration against the NEET examination leak at Jantar Mantar, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has renewed its agitation, calling for a protest march in Delhi on September 5. The party has accused the Central government of failing to uphold the commitments it made on July 25.

The satirical group, which started on Instagram earlier this year, had been on a 36-day protest in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP called off the strike after the demand was met.

Apart from Pradhan's resignation, the CJP had also demanded compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak. It also wanted the government's assurance that no legal action would be initiated against protesters.

The march, to be held on Teachers’ Day, will begin at India Gate and proceed towards the Delhi Police Headquarters, the CJP announced in a statement.

The CJP said the march would be led by families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET exam and the subsequent re-test, and those who were allegedly subjected to police excesses during the July agitation.

"CJP announces youth mobilisation on September 5th, with a peaceful march from India Gate to Delhi Police Headquarters, led by families of deceased NEET victims and victims of police brutality, over the Government's failure to honour its July 25 commitments," it said in the statement.

The CJP accused the government of resorting to delaying tactics, hiding behind technicalities, and avoiding clear commitments instead of implementing what was solemnly promised.

"The National Working Committee of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) convened today to review the Government of India and BJP/NDA ruled states' compliance with the solemn commitments made to the young people of this country on 25 July 2026, based on which the nationwide youth protests were withdrawn in good faith. Members of the Committee expressed serious doubts over whether the Government intends to honour its word at all," it added.

However, the police, as per a report, said they have not received any requests for a protest march from the CJP. “We have not received any request letter so far. If we receive any request, we will review it accordingly,” a police source said.
