Delhi court extends judicial custody of Ranka and Das by two more days
A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka by two days, keeping them lodged in Tihar Jail.
The two were arrested following an alleged breach at Jantar Mantar earlier this week, where protests are no longer permitted. They were initially remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14.
The extension came after the Delhi Police sought a further five days of custody, citing concerns that the two could organise another protest.
The case is linked to the CJP's protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and its demand for accountability over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The party has alleged that the proceedings against its members were being deliberately delayed. Meanwhile, a Special Executive Magistrate reportedly received a death threat in connection with the proceedings, following which police registered a non-cognisable report against unknown persons.
