BJP calls nationwide protests over Kharge’s remark on Modi’s father
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for nationwide protests on Monday over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father, demanding an unconditional apology from the Congress leader.
The BJP’s protest call follows Kharge’s remarks at an event in Patna on Sunday, where he was addressing a gathering marking the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh.
During the event, a man in the audience shouted that Modi would not leave office. Responding to the interruption, Kharge said, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega.”
The remark drew a sharp response from the BJP, which accused the Congress president of using offensive language and targeting the Prime Minister’s family.
Union home minister Amit Shah criticised Kharge, alleging that the Congress leadership had repeatedly resorted to personal attacks against Modi and his family.
The BJP has directed its state units to organise demonstrations at party headquarters across the country on Monday and demanded an apology from Kharge.
A BJP worker also filed a complaint against the Congress president in Patna on Sunday evening. Police said the complaint would be transferred to Gandhi Maidan police station, which has jurisdiction over the area.
The Congress defended Kharge, arguing that his remarks came in response to heckling during the event.
